Lakeland vs Coeur D’Alene Recap

Liam Bradford, Sports Writer

Always keep your foot on the gas. That is a lesson that the Lakeland Hawks (2-2) learned after a heartbreaking 53-50 loss to the Coeur D’Alene Vikings (2-0) on Thursday night. The Hawks held a 12 point lead late in the third quarter, but the Vikings successfully chipped away at what seemed to be a secure Hawks lead.

Bryce Henry and Noah Haaland scored in the double digits for Lakeland and led them to a seemingly insurmountable lead after three quarters. A lesson the Hawks have learned in each of their last two games, both of which were last-minute losses, is that there are four quarters to play, and if you have a lead after three quarters, the job is not finished until the clock runs out.

The Hawks held a 50-44 lead with two minutes left when two of their starters fouled out. Ammon Munyer earned a controversial technical foul call, which ultimately led to a critical momentum switch. Lakeland shot poorly from the field (31.67%), especially when it came to shots from beyond the arc(16.67%).

The Vikings ultimately had a great come back and earned their second straight win to start off their season. The Hawks fell to 2-2 and will not play until December 19 vs the Lewiston Bengals.
