The Lakeland Hawks baseball team (9-14, 4-5) traveled to Moscow to play against the Sandpoint Bulldogs (7-16, 2-7) in a district elimination game on May 6.
Tadhg Ellwood went 2 for 3 with a single and a home run driving in two runs. Caleb Mason went 2 for 3 with two singles, and Jace Cooksey went 1 for 2 with a single and an RBI.
The score was knotted at zero until the top of the third when they got two runs across the board and then scored five runs in the fourth inning, in which the Hawks responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Then both teams scored one run in the sixth inning. The Hawks were able to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Jace Taylor got the start for the Hawks and went 3 1/3 innings giving up twelve hits, two earned runs and two strikeouts.
Jake Jovick came into relief, going two innings, allowing five hits, one earned run, one strikeout and two walks.
Garrett Farrell closed it out for the Hawks going 1.2 innings, one hit and zero earned runs. This was the first round of districts in which the winner played the Moscow Bears in a best-of-three series, eliminating the Hawks from districts.
After yesterday, Moscow is leading the series 1-0 after a 7-0 to win yesterday.
