The Lakeland Hawks (6-6, 3-1) travel to War Memorial field to play against the Sandpoint Bulldogs (3-11, 0-4) in a league doubleheader on April 18.
The Hawks swept the Bulldogs 11-1 in the first game and 32-12 in the second game.
Alexis Hanna went 3 for 4 with three singles, Ada Blakemore went 1 for 2 with a single and an RBI, and Katie Dewey went 1 for 2 with a single and an RBI.
Baylie Hindle went 2 for 2 with a pair of singles for the Bulldogs and Peyton Cessna went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
The Hawks only had one error in the field but still played great all around. As for the Bulldogs, they played flawlessly in the field, having no errors.
The Hawks racked up 11 hits in this game while going through five innings, compared to the Bulldogs’ seven.
Abby Helmholz pitched the start for the Hawks, going five innings, giving up five hits, zero earned runs, three walks and seven strikeouts. The Freshman absolutely shoved on the mound. Helmholz got the win for this game.
As for the Bulldogs, Hali Smotherman got the start and went all five innings, giving up eleven hits, nine earned runs, five walks and five strikeouts. Smotherman got the loss for the Bulldogs.
Starting off for the second game, the Hawks completed the sweep with a 23-12 win through five innings.
The Hawks put up a crooked number in the first inning, scoring eight, following up with two runs in the second inning, six runs in the third, four runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth.
Hanna was on fire in both games, going 3 for 4 again at the dish, with three singles and two RBIs. Kate Barnard went 2 for 3 with two singles and one RBI, Zimmerman went 2 for 5 with a double and four RBI’s and Bailey Frank went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBI’s.
For Sandpoint, Cadence Skibitisky went 3 for 4 at the plate with three singles and one RBI, and Teagen Newsom went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Cessna went 2 for 4 with a single and a home run, driving in three runs.
This game was a defensive struggle for both teams. For the Hawks, they had six errors with 12 hits, and for the Bulldogs, they had ten errors with 12 hits.
Mackenzie Briggs started this game for the Hawks, going five innings, giving up eight earned runs, three walks, and five strikeouts and got the win for the Hawks.
Ainsley Hull started for the Bulldogs, going 4.1 innings, seven hits, five earned runs, eight walks, and one strikeout.
Smotherman came into relief for the Bulldogs, going .2 innings, giving up five hits, two earned runs, two walks and two strikeouts.
The Hawks will play again on April 23 in a doubleheader against Lewiston.
