Lakeland High School has many talented students participating in many sports and activities. Still, few know of one of the most underrated student-athletes at LHS, Kevin Slover, Jr.
Slover is on the varsity baseball team and plays catch. In their most recent game against Lakeside High School, Slover went 2 for 3 at the plate and had two of the team’s four RBIs. His hits consisted of a double and a single.
Many people around the school like Slover and admire him for being a good friend and overall a good person.
“I have known him since freshman year, and we were the only two sophomores on C-team that year,” Colin Killian said. “Watching him grow as a baseball player and a friend is cool to see.”
In sophomore year, Slover was one of the only C-team sophomores. Though some kids would be discouraged by that, Slover was not, and he worked his tail off. Fast-forward to senior year, and he is on varsity contributing to the team and has been a big help in the team’s win so far.
Outside of school and sports, Slover stays busy at NIC. He is an automotive mechanic and works on all sorts of cars at the shop.
“I love working on cars,” Slover said. “It is such a fun hobby, but I plan on following in my dad’s footsteps and becoming a cop.”
The average day of Slover’s life is somewhat simple: school, sports, auto-mechanic and repeat. But he likes it a lot. He likes enjoying the simple things in life and spending time with his family.
“I like hanging out with my family all of the time; we all get along and they are the best,” Slover said.
Slover also enjoys playing video games. He plays Rainbow Six Siege, first-person games and Minecraft.
Slover also works at Papa Murphy’s and loves the job as a whole. He works there as much as possible and tries to make as much money as possible.
“Papa Murphy’s is an awesome place to work,” Slover said. “The staff there is great, and they have some of the best pizza around.”
