A Regional Victory

The Lakeland wrestling team added another regional championship to their book for the 14th year in a row Friday, Feb. 17.

The team collectively had multiple pins and was very persistent despite their exhaustion on the mat. The boys gave it their all, even those who were later eliminated never gave up during their match.

The team had a total of six individual championships by Caleb Adams (98), Jaren Knopp (106), Matt Williams (120), Kaleb Hammer (132), Dylan Scott (170), and Devon Howell (220) each contributing winning titles to Lakeland’s wrestling team.

The leading individuals of the top bracket, including these six, are moving onto the 4A State Tournament. This tournament is set to take place at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa, ID starting Thursday, Feb. 21. Only time will tell if our Lakeland athletes will bring their best competitive performance to the mat and bring home the state title.

Lakeland won the tournament against Sandpoint and Moscow with a combined total of 408.2 points, beating both teams by over 150 points.

The wrestling team performed very well and we cannot wait to see them in the next tournament as they strive for a state title.
