The swim state tournament is nearing, and multiple Lakeland swimmers will be competing.

On Oct. 29, the swim team had a successful district meet in Moscow, Idaho.

Clearly, the Hawks’ hard work is paying off, as several swimmers from both the boy’s and girl’s teams will be attending State.

Logan Harris, Elijah Minix, Ethan Abbott, Micah Minix, Jeremiah Couper, Sarah Smith, and Ethan Harrell are the Hawk’s state qualifiers.

The swimmers will continue to practice hard in preparation for the biggest competition of the season. To be in the best condition they can be this weekend, the swimmers are expected to eat clean and stay completely away from sugar.

Ethan Harrell broke the school record for the 100-meter butterfly. Ethan Abbott broke the school record for 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1 minute and 1.2 seconds.

Micah Minix placed 13th in the 50-yard freestyle, with Jeremiah capturing 14th.

“I expect Ethan Harrell, Logan Harris, and Ethan Abbott to do really well at State,” said Thayer Sabatke.

Throughout the meet, ten swimmers placed high enough to be considered for state in four events.

Logan Harris was one of these individuals, placing high enough in the 200-meter freestyle, the 200-meter free relay, the 500-meter freestyle, and the 400-meter free relay.

Wyatt Aramburu noted, “The main challenge for us at districts were the swimmers from Moscow. They were performing very well.”

The 2022 State Tournament will take place on November 5th at Boise City Aquatic Center in Boise, Idaho.
