Tim Kiefer officially resigned as head football coach at Lakeland High School on February 2nd.

Wednesday afternoon Kiefer sent out a message to football players explaining that it is time to,  “Shake things up for (him) personally and focus on other off-field matters.”

Kiefer has been the head football coach at Lakeland for the past 19 years.

“At this point in my life I am looking to diversify what I do and be able to spend more time with friends and family,” Kiefer said.

Kiefer says he plans to continue to be involved with the team and organize summer weights until his replacement is found.

“I was not expecting it at all. I’m kinda upset but look forward to having a great season with whoever comes in. I really like him as a guy and hope he stays on the football staff,” said junior slot receiver and linebacker Thomas Calder.

“It was out of the blue; I’ll miss him,” said junior running back and linebacker John Cornish.

“I’m sure they will do a great job evaluating the next head coach and I look forward to next season.”
