Movie Theaters have always been a favorite for many people to go relax and have a fun time with their friends and family. 

Online platforms have begun to take over people’s time and people have started to go to the movies less. 

Having online platforms like Hulu, Netflix, Disney Plus, and other sites take away the need for people to go to the movies since they can do it in the comfort of their homes. 

Covid-19 had a huge impact on movie theaters attendance through the past few years. 

According to “Domestic Movie Theatrical Market Summary 1995 to 2021” movies theaters only made about $2,044,876,261 in 2020, while movies theater usually made about $10-11 million in previous years. 

Many students have also agreed that online platforms have become more popular. 

Students like Malia Batman really enjoys sites like Netflix and Disney Plus because she can always rely on finding a show on one of those platforms. 

Sophomore student, Malia Batman says, “It always fun to have a first date at the movie theaters. Sometimes I would rather stay home and watch Netflix or Hulu. It’s also fun to have a day out with your friends though and make memories. My moods change and I like having both options.” 

Other students like Riley May feel like the trip to a movie theater is more fun and entertaining compared to staying home and using an online platform. 

“Going to the movie theaters gives you the classic movie vibe that is a good feeling. The screen is bigger, and louder. The option of 3D is also super cool. Although platforms like Disney Plus Hulu, Amazon Prime, and HBO are good, I do prefer going to the movies to hang out with friends to make memories.”

English Teacher at Lakeland High School, Ms. Shannon Hall also agrees that movie theaters are better than staying at home. 

“It’s a great experience for a first date, for friend outings, and even family outings.” 

The experience of going to the movies is always fun, but having online platforms have somewhat taken away from the value and desire to make the trip to the movies. 

Ms. Hall feels that the convenience is nice to have. 

“I definitely prefer going to the movies, but sometimes it nice to just stay home. The snacks at home are free and you don’t have to get dressed up for the occasion. Movie theaters are still fun. The whole experience of it is better. The surround sound and the bigger screen just create a better experience.” 

Although online television platforms have become more popular, movie theaters are still a fun experience to go through and create memories between loved ones.
