This year, the Lakeland Hawks soccer team has been through their fair share of struggle due to not having much depth or experience on their team compared to previous years. On September 14th, the Lakeland Hawks soccer team took on the Coeur d’Alene Vikings. The Hawks lost to the Vikings 7-0 to fall to 0-6-2.

Two days later, the Hawks looked to bounce back against the Post Falls Trojans. Unfortunately, they lost to the Trojans 5-1. Braden Munson was the lone Lakeland scorer in the loss.

The Hawks then had a rematch with the Trojans on September 25th. It was a close game, with a few controversial calls, but the Trojans pulled out with the win 3-2 over the Hawks. The Hawks played a solid all-around game despite losing against their 5A opponent.

On September 28th, the Hawks hosted the Lake City Timberwolves in their second meeting of the year. The Hawks struggled to compete with the Timberwolves and lost 5-1.

The Hawks took on their rivals, the Sandpoint Bulldogs, in a potential district preview game. The Hawks played a great game but lost 3-0.

On Saturday afternoon, the Lakeland Hawks boys soccer team won their first game snapping their losing streak with a 3-0 win against the Timberlake Tigers. It also happened to be senior night for the Hawks.

According to midfielder Garrett Love, the Hawks now sit at 1-10-2 and are very relieved to see anything other than a 0 in the win column.

The first half of the first Hawks win was a quiet game. No one scored until the second half. Austin Parks scored the game’s first goal when the ball went off the fingertips of Timberlake’s goalie.

Haidyn Jonas scored the following two goals of the game; one of them happened to be a penalty kick.

The Hawks had one yellow card in the game, and the Tigers had four yellow and two red cards. Ashton Ukich had one yellow card for the Hawks.

The Hawks goalkeeper, Basquait Nelson, had a lot of crucial blocks for the Hawks. They dominated this game throughout and were finally victorious.

This year, the Hawks have five seniors: Basquiat Nelson, Hunter Reichert, Braden Munson, Caleb Gregory, and Brenner Drake. Austin Parks, Jacob Ukich, Munson, Hudson Drake, Garrett Love, Haidyn Jonas have all been great scorers this year for the Hawks and found the back of the net at least once.

The Hawks play their first district matchup against the Moscow Bears on Tuesday, October 12th in Moscow at 3:30.
