Options at KTEC

KTEC is a school near Lakeland High School that can help students get certificates and college credits. 

Students can start KTEC in their junior and/or senior year. There are many different courses KTEC offers for Lakeland High School students. 

The most popular are Resort Academy, Health professions, Automotive Technology, and Diesel Technology. Resort Academy is a 2 year program that is offered at KTEC. It is partnered with the Coeur d’ Alene Resort. 

Classes are held at the resort and they do many activities there. The first year students will work with the management team of different departments. The students will go to the resort two days a week. 

They also plan a three day spring trip for all members of the academy. Year 2 students will work with other departments and they will work directly with the resort. They will also plan a fundraising project for a charity.

Health Professions is also a popular program KTEC offers. Year 1 is a program where you learn the basics of how health programs work. Year 2 you can take a test to become a CNA. You also learn about pharmacists and rehab therapy. You can earn many college credits and learn the basics of the health industry.

Automotive Technology is a 2 year program for students who want to learn how to fix and repair cars.  You can take it for 1 or 2 years and you can earn a certificate. So, if you want to learn how to fix and repair cars this is for you.

Diesel Mechanics is a 2 year program, but you can take it for 1 or 2 years.  You will learn how to be a Diesel Mechanic. You are taught by a certified instructor and you learn in the classroom and hands on.  You can earn an industry certification. 

There are many more KTEC options for 11th and 12th graders. KTEC is a very good option if you want to learn something new and get ready for college or real life. Most students have had a tour of KTEC in 8th grade to learn about where everything is, so they can figure out if they want to do KTEC. 

There are many students who are doing KTEC or are going to start next fall. In a poll almost 70% of 10th graders are trying to get into KTEC next fall. So, if you are planning on doing it you should sign up so you can get a spot.
