On this year’s JV tennis team were the doubles partners Carlyn Harte and Ameilia Liddiard, two freshmen who have been best friends since the day they met at soccer.
When Harte and Liddiard first met they did not like each other. When they started to get to know each other through soccer they became good friends and were often seen talking to each other at practices goofing off.
“Playing well in soccer influenced us to give tennis a shot” Harte said.
Harte and Liddiard agreed to try out tennis because of how well they worked with each other in soccer. They thought they could do well and have a really fun spring sports season playing tennis. They also had a few other friends they invited to lay alongside them because they had fun at the first few practices.
Both of the girls’ favorite part of each other is how funny the other person is and how they make each other laugh.
“I love Carlyn because she is so silly,” Liddiard said.
“I really like Amelia and I can goof off and still stay focused,” Harte said.
This year’s tennis season was very fun for Carlyn and Amelie because of how they can catch on any drama or gossip while being productive and playing a sport. They were constantly whispering and giggling on their side of the tennis court. They also would wear Harte’s earbuds and listen to their favourite music because they share a similar music taste making practices more fun and upbeat.
The girls have been great friends since the beginning of learning more about each other and have built a strong friendship ever since then.
“When you connect well with someone you just click and we trust each other and I trust Carlyn a lot” said Liddiard.
Though they have not known each other for that long they feel like they have known each other since they were little.
“Ameilia is the person I have grown closet to in the shortest amount of time,” Harte said.
Even though they are constantly laughing about things they were one of the better JV tennis double teams. They won more matches than losses and were very good because they each have different strengths.
“Ameilia is good at net play and I’m good at playing at the back of court,” Harte said.
Their favourite part of tennis was making fun of Mr. Ballard and the way he sits to watch their games. They also enjoyed hanging out with their other friends on the team.
Playing at different high schools was very fun for the girls because they enjoyed the bus rides and going to different places for food. Their coach, Mr. Ballard bought the team Mcflurries and made some really fun memories at Mcdonalds.
Amielia’s favorite part about playing at different places is that she gets to sleep and skip school. She also enjoys playing games and building blanket forts along with Carlyn.
This duo will be playing together next year as well and are hoping to be on varsity and to improve their skills greatly. They are super excited for the upcoming season and the memories they will make.
