School starting or school ending.
At the beginning of the year, students are adjusting to a new sleep schedule, making time for homework in their schedules and still trying to go out and have fun. Most students find it stressful when starting school due to their daily lives changing.
Some students may fall behind at the start of the year because they feel it is too much or they simply don’t want to do the work.
“Its hard to get used to a school schedule again after staying up late most of the time during the summer.” Sophomore Reese Vanek said
Different grades may experience different levels of stress when school starts. For freshmen they are worried about meeting new people, teachers, and high school in general. For sophomores, it’s not wanting to do the work and wanting to just hangout with friends.
Juniors have a stressful year, they worry about the school work after being told it’s the hardest year, doing well on their SAT and figuring out what they want to do after school and where to go to college.
“It’s stressful having to take so many tests and doing classwork for each class after testing.” Junior Ada Blakemoore said
Every student has their own challenges they face depending on the year they are in.
For every student the end of the school year is the most stressful. They have to worry about passing their classes after taking finals and wanting to slow down because they seem tired of school.
For the seniors it’s a bit different. They are faced with the constant meeting about scholarship possibilities, what they want to do once they graduate, and find a job that will help them out once they aren’t going to school. During the school year they have to write their big senior paper and give their senior presentations, which they need to pass to graduate.
“Its been difficult to keep up with everything we have had to complete in order to graduate.” Senior Evan Hildesheim
When the school year is just about over, the seniors tend to get senioritis. They will start to not want to do the work anymore, skipping school, and even being a little cranky. This isnt just a problem for the students, but it is also difficult for the teachers.
Their teachers see them getting to that point and try to make it easier for them but also still trying to teach them just as every other student. Seniors don’t want to listen and just want to be done with school, but they still understand they have to pass their classes and show up to be able to walk across the stage and get their diploma.
What’s the most stressful part of school? Most people may ask.
At the end of the year when it is getting warm outside, students start to crumble. It can be difficult for the students to finish the year because of how badly they want to be done, but they don’t realize that it’s also stressful on the teachers.
Although the stretch between Christmas and spring break can be stressful as the weather is gloomy.
“There is less sunlight and it is dreary which can make the students less motivated to give effort.” Science teacher Joshua Ballard said.
Other teachers universally agree that the end of the year is when their students have no motivation left, especially freshman and sophomore.
“The beginning can be difficult because it’s the unknown and the end of it is higher expectation for the students. The maturity between the grades shows the motivation between each grade.” Teacher at LHS, Jacob Munyer said.
Even though everyone is tired and stressed out with school they still have a job to complete at the end of the day.
Students have to pass their classes and teachers have to hopefully make an impact on the students’ lives, hoping they walk away learning something new that will help them in the future.
Whether it’s the first day or the countdown to the last day, school can be stressful at any given moment. It’s not just the workload you can be given but it’s the extra push you have to give to get the job done.
