If you walk into a school nowadays it looks a lot like it did 50 years ago. There’s rows of desks and a white board or chalkboard in front and a teacher looking over the classroom.
However, outside of those walls the world has changed dramatically.
While a lot of people focus on keeping us tapped in with heavy textbooks and paper quizzes, it’s time for humans to make a dramatic change in the way we learn.
For a long time school has been treated like a workers factory. Every student is expected to learn the same thing, the same way every year.
But not all kids are built to just take in whatever someone says to learn about a topic.
“I feel personally defeated because I want to be able to use my knowledge to the fullest,” Avy Murphy said, “I believe that everything I learn plays a role in my future life, therefore what is seen as beneficial to my teachers is seen as beneficial to me.”
This is where technology can be our best friend.
Imagine a digital app that knows exactly where you’re stuck. If your teacher teaches a subject and you don’t understand it you can just go back and touch up on what she says.
Computers help people understand things better as they can go as in depth as you want it and it can show you more than one singular person can.
A big amount of adults get worried about screen time as they may think that a computer for school means your child would be on a screen all day. This is reasonable because no one wants to live in a world where kids forget how to make friends or talk with one another.
But digital learning shouldn’t mean being solitary.
With computers you’re able to interact with kids all around the world on global projects and focusing on bringing people together.
“Although it’s reasonable for parents to be concerned that their child may be on screens all day in classrooms.” Paige Carey said, “computers allow for the kids to take a break from the world around them and independently thrive in class.”
Change is scary, especially when it’s about such a big change in our daily lives.
But these kids should get a bigger chance to learn and gain more knowledge than the people ahead of them. They deserve the opportunity.
