The Lakeland Hawks softball team split a doubleheader, showing both offensive firepower and resilience in a pair of high-energy games.
In the opener, Lakeland came up just short in a tough 13–11 loss. The Hawks’ bats were active from the start, racking up 13 hits and keeping constant pressure on the defense. Ada Blakemore led the way at the top of the lineup with three hits and two runs scored, while Ella Ferguson delivered a big performance with three hits and three RBIs. Kiersten Drake also contributed with two RBIs.
Despite the strong offensive showing, Lakeland couldn’t quite hold off Lewiston late, as the Bengals capitalized on key opportunities to edge out the win in a back-and-forth contest.
The Hawks responded in a big way in game two, bouncing back with a dominant 15–3 victory. Lakeland wasted no time taking control, scoring early and continuing to build the lead throughout the game. The offense exploded for 15 runs on 15 hits in a complete team effort.
Kiersten Drake had a standout game, scoring three runs and driving in two, while Reagan Dutton added three RBIs and two runs scored. Ava Gonzales chipped in with two hits and two runs, and multiple players contributed RBIs as the lineup stayed productive from top to bottom.
Lakeland’s defense also tightened up in the second game, limiting mistakes and shutting down Lewiston’s offense after the early innings.
The split doubleheader highlighted Lakeland’s ability to respond to adversity. After a narrow loss in game one, the Hawks regrouped and delivered a commanding performance in game two, finishing the day on a strong note.
