Tanning in the summer is something that makes most of the teens in North Idaho excited and ready for the heat of the sun.
Having that bronze look on skin gives some people a confidence they didn’t know they could have. Helping them forget about the grey clouds of the cold.
Some people naturally have golden skin unlike others who are very pale in the winter and become tan in the summer.
Tanning occurs when the uv from the sun or artificial uv causes the skin to produce more melanin. This is the natural reaction to protect skin from the sun, tanning is more than looks its also a shield from sun burns.
Amelia Liddiard, a freshman at Lakeland, has recently been getting a large amount of compliments for how dark her skin is after spring break. She said she does not like fake tanner because it makes her look orange.
Being tan gives her a confidence boost she loves feeling when she is getting complimented. “Being tan is awesome and pawsome because it makes me look better in all of my clothes.” Said Liddiard.
Another freshman Piper Garwick prefers to be tan all year especially for cheer competitions in the cold seasons.
She uses fake tan in the winter and naturally tans in late spring and summer.
She says being tan makes her not feel like a ghost all year and makes her confidence skyrocket.
“Being tan is the way to live,” said Garwick.
Prom, homecoming, and graduation is an important time for people and many want to be tan for the photos, mainly girls, and to make themselves feel a little more pretty and confident in their dresses.
Since prom is in the spring most people would not have a natural tan and tend to get fake tan either from tanning beds or other methods.

Most people agree that tanning can help people feel more confident in their own skin and make them feel more comfortable in themselves.
