Tonight, the Lakeland Hawks (7-4) will face the Coeur d’Alene Vikings (4-5-1), at 4pm.
The Hawks currently are coming from a sweep against Moscow and splitting with Lewiston. They have had consistent pitching this season and are most definitely successful. The Hawks pitchers average ERA is 4.35.
As the Hawks get ready to play a big 6A school, there is hope for them to out perform the vikings.
Senior Jace Taylor has been a key factor for the hawks this season as he leads in batting average (.457), on base percentage (.578), and with the best ERA with a 1.42.
Sophomore Nate Bevacqua has also been successful this season leading with home runs, hits, RBI, slugging percentage, and doubles.
“Jace and Nate have been big key factors by helping us stay in games in late innings and providing reassurance for everyone when they are at the plate,” Senior Jake Larcher said.
The Vikings currently have a 3 game losing streak and lost a double header to Lewiston. Their current average ERA is 5.11. The common thing seen from the Vikings is high scoring games showing that the consistency for defense isn’t reliable.
The Hawks have put time and effort into preparing for some of the most difficult games of the season but also have had a couple targets to aim for going into this season. As LHS is finding their drive to win games they have high chances to come out and compete with CHS.
“As a team we have played really well over the past couple weeks and have really turned the page from the beginning of the season,” senior Casen Hostetler said “we are looking to keep it going with this drive we have as a team.”
