On Thursday and Friday night, the 16th and 17th of April, the curtains in the Lakeland High School’s commons will rise and the acting class will take the stage.
C.S. Lewis’s The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe has been in the works, and on both Thursday and Friday night, everyone who attends will get to see the Lakeland acting class’ interpretation of the script.
They have been perfecting their performance for weeks, and their hard work will pay off as they take the stage and show the audience the work they’ve put in.
It’s been a tough one, with multiple people struggling to remember their lines, but it will still be a fun night for the actors and the audience.
One of the main characters in the play is Lucy, played by Rowan McKinzie. Lucy is the youngest of the four Pevensie children, and is the main protagonist of the play.
McKinzie has one of the harder roles to prepare for, since she almost never leaves the stage, but based on her past performances, she will portray the character well.
A less important but still impactful character is Mrs. Beaver, played by Aubrie Hodgkins. Mrs. Beaver is a maternal character that gives aid to the Pevensie children throughout the play.
To prepare herself, Hodgkins has gone over her lines repeatedly and hung out with her scene partners outside of class to make sure they have the chemistry of the characters down.
For Hodgkins, the hardest part of preparing for the play has been learning her lines.
“I have this one specific scene I really struggle with,” Hodgkins said.
She is excited for the upcoming play despite the pressure placed on her to do well, which has made her nervous but is overshadowed by one of the last performances of her acting career.
A very minor character is the unicorn, played by Jenna Olson. The unicorn is a sidekick, the witch’s pet, that turns to the good side by the end of the play.
To prepare herself, Olson has gone over her lines and where she needs to be onstage to make sure her performance goes well. The hardest part of preparing for the play has been making sure her lines are exactly how they need to be to make sure the play runs smoothly.
Olson is nervous for this play, since it is the first big one of the year.
The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe will come to the stage two days in a row, and the Lakeland acting class will get to show off what they’ve been working on.
