One of the biggest events for upper classmen has come and gone.
Lakeland High School Prom was held at the Hagadone Event Center, which is on the Coeur d’Alene golf course.
The tickets were 50 dollars a piece or 90 for couples.
The dance is for juniors and seniors but sophomores and freshmen are allowed to go if invited by an upperclassman.
“It was fun, the music was the best part,” Fylie Reynolds said. “It was nice to see what to expect next year.”
Reynolds is a sophomore and was invited to prom by her friends.
Students were also allowed to invite students from other schools with a guest form filled out.
The place was a private and perfect area where it was just the students and chaperones.
“I love seeing all the kids get dressed up, it is so fun to see them in their finery,” Rebecca Hasz said. “The girls all looked so gorgeous and the boys all looked so dapper.”
Music was playing and the dance floor was right in the center. Tables are on each side of the dance floor giving the students an option to sit. There was also a dessert bar and drinks on both sides. On just one side there was a photo place to take pictures with your friends.
The event can be months of planning or renting a tuxedo last minute.
There are so many thoughts that go into that night and planning.
Where do we take pictures?
Where do we go to dinner?
Should we go with a group or just a date?
What color do we get?
Ball gown dress or tight fitting?
Hair up or down?
What kind of makeup?
What should I do with my nails?
The questions are so important because they want the night and outfit to be so perfect.
The questions are endless and it takes planning, the dress shopping, the tuxedo shopping, the nails, the makeup, the hair. So many different things that can be asked and what to do.
It can be a mix of stress and excitement, from wanting everything to be perfect to just wanting to enjoy the night with people from your school.
“I was extremely excited, just to enjoy one of the last big events before graduation with the people I care about the most,” Alyssa Ryckman said. “Extremly stressed while getting ready but after I was ready but after pictures I felt better.”
They want to make sure the pictures turn out good and eat without spilling on your clothes. The excitement of getting ready with your friends and going to dinner with them. The pictures turning out beautiful is a feeling of relief and excitement.
After all the planning the day finally came and it was time to get ready. The planning all became a reality, people got ready and the pictures began, then the dinner, then finally the dance.
Photographers and restaurants are all booked for the night and parents are ready to see their kids all dressed up.
A popular spot used to take a ton of photos was downtown CDA. There is the boardwalk and so many pretty areas just around there. A spot also used often is the Rathdrum community park.
Idaho is definitely a great place for photos. It has lakes and trees, just so many different areas that can be chosen.
“We went to the CDA resort for photos,” Wyatt Fuhriman said. “The dinner was the best part, we went to Titos.”
The dinner places that are also popular for prom are Dockside, Bardenay, Tito’s and Beverley’s. Those are all located in the CDA resort and are a little more fancy. Texas Roadhouse, Olive Garden, and Mackenzie River are also places that are used just a little more casual dining.
“Dinner beforehand was my favorite part, we went to Dockside,” Frank McCarthy said.
The teachers were there to chaperone, and dessert, and drinks were provided.
Lakeland’s dance was 8pm-11pm. The prom king was Cade Pittman and the prom queen was Reesa Saxe.
Overall the student council did a wonderful job of planning the dance for their classmates. The memories will last a lifetime. The opportunity to dress so formally may not come around too often for everyone. The beauty of school dances is everyone will at least get the opportunity once. The long day of getting ready and all the events leading up to the dance truly fly by, making the whole day feel so short.
