Social media in this age is a very popular thing. Platforms like Instagram, Tiktok, Facebook, Twitter and more are constantly being used.
With teens social media has become an uprising problem. Distracting them from school, work and just normal tasks.
When a notification pops up on your phone, its hard to resist or constantly check your phone.
Phones distract from quality family time and friend time, when families go to dinner you often see the kids on their phones or tablets.
And lately, you see teens walking around malls and stores with friends constantly on their phones.
Social Media also creates depression, anxiety and low self-esteem.
Its easy for people to compare themselves to other people that they see on the internet. Which can make peoples confidence and self esteem lower.
If you’re constantly scrolling on your phone your missing out on valuable life moments and memories.
“I constantly will find myself stuck to my phone, when my phone died I just feel bored and like theres nothing to do. My phone also affects my sleep, ill catch myself always staying up late because my eyes are glued to my phone,” Ben Bixby said.
Your phones don’t only distract your focus throughout the day but they can even affect your sleep, which can effect your ability to focus the nest day.
Sleep is very important and if you lose out on sleep, it can really put a damper on the next day, it’s a cycle.
So, while social media can be used for many good things like online paying, shopping and staying connected with family and friends. Social Media can also be very bad, and lead to a lot of issues both physically and mentally.
Next time you go out with family or friends, really take in the moment and don’t let your phone control you.
