The Lakeland Hawks opened their track and field season with a strong showing at their first home meet of the year, highlighted by several event wins and standout performances.
“I thought it went really good for us, lots of personal records,” Lakeland athlete Hunter Steward said. “Overall I think we have a great chance of making state.”
One of the top performers of the meet was Kenai Munyer, who won the discus with a personal best throw of 136 feet, 2 inches. Munyer also finished second in the shot put with another personal best of 47 feet, 9.5 inches.
Brayden Carrel also delivered a big performance for the Hawks, winning the boys shot put with a personal best throw of 52 feet, 4.5 inches.
On the track, the Lakeland girls 4×200 relay team of Tessa Lovell, Ruby Kindy, Ashlyn Karle, and Kapree Kiefer captured first place with a time of 1:49.49.
In the sprints, Sapphire Ruelle placed second in the girls 100 meters with a time of 12.46 seconds, while Ashlyn Karle finished third with a personal best time of 12.76.
Lakeland also saw additional event victories from Alyssa Hinkle in the pole vault and Peyton Hillman in the javelin, helping cap off an impressive opening meet for the Hawks.
