The Lakeland Hawks opened their season with a hard-fought battle against the Lake City Timberwolves, falling just short in a dramatic 6–5 loss that stretched into two extra innings.
Both teams came ready to compete, and the game quickly turned into a back-and-forth contest. The Hawks showed resilience throughout the matchup, answering Lake City’s scoring with timely hits and solid defensive plays. Lakeland kept the pressure on, refusing to back down even when the Timberwolves gained momentum.
“Our pitching was really impressive, we just need to execute at the plate offensively” Dre smith said.
After seven innings of tight baseball, the score remained tied, sending the game into extra innings. The intensity only grew from there as both teams battled to gain the edge. Lakeland’s defense worked hard to keep the game alive, while the offense continued searching for the go-ahead run.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Timberwolves were able to break through in the top of the ninth inning, scoring the run that ultimately sealed the 6–5 victory. Despite the loss, Lakeland showed strong determination and grit in their season opener, battling through nine competitive innings against a tough opponent.
The close game gave the Hawks plenty of positives to build on as the season gets underway.
Lakeland will look to bounce back this weekend when they face University High School Titans on Saturday. The Hawks will aim to carry their strong effort into the matchup and secure their first win of the season.
