The Lakeland Hawks softball team made the long trip from Rathdrum down to Utah this past weekend for an early-season tournament, gaining valuable experience while finishing with a solid 2–2 record against tough competition.
The tournament gave the Hawks a chance to test themselves against unfamiliar opponents and start building chemistry early in the season. Despite the long travel and competitive field, Lakeland showed resilience throughout the weekend.
The Hawks split their four games, picking up two important wins while also learning from two hard-fought losses. Throughout the tournament, Lakeland demonstrated strong teamwork, improving with each game they played.
One of the biggest takeaways from the trip was how the team came together both on and off the field. Senior leadership and communication played a key role in helping the Hawks stay focused during the demanding schedule of tournament play.
“We really came together as a team,” Lakeland player Delilah Zimmerman said. “Playing teams we don’t normally see helped us and was really good for the team overall”
Travel tournaments like this are often about more than just wins and losses. They allow teams to build chemistry, gain experience against different styles of play, and prepare for the long season ahead. For Lakeland, the Utah trip was an opportunity to develop confidence and momentum.
The Hawks showed flashes of strong offense and solid defense throughout the weekend, proving they can compete with teams outside their region. The experience should help the team moving forward as they return home and prepare for the rest of their schedule.
With the season still young, Lakeland hopes the lessons learned in Utah will help them continue improving as they aim to make a strong push in their league this year.
