Doctor Rockett is a widely known teacher at Lakeland High School (LHS) because of his sense of humor and his English accent.
He was born in Springfield Massachusetts, United states, but he was raised in West Yorkshire, northern England in the town of Heckmondwike, middle of Luddite country. Here he acquired his accent and his unique personality that many students enjoy.
He moved back to the United States in 1998 to North Carolina and worked at the Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA.
After living there he moved to Washington from 2005-2010 in Issaquah.
After living in Washington for 5 years he moved back to England and lived there for 10 years. There he started his career as a teacher.
Little did he know he would be coming back to the Washington area in 2020 to be closer to his children. Rockett decided to live in Idaho and continue his teaching career at LHS.
“England: miserable weather, and overcrowded. In the United States there are more liberty and more opportunities and the weather is better,” Rockett said.
Before becoming a teacher, Rockett had many jobs that are each unique and different.
His first career in the United States was working as an EPA for Merk in North Carolina.
He then worked at a construction company, and even managed a thrift store in Washington for a year.
Rockett managed the thrift store for his church in Issaquah. He continued to work for the church as a faculty member.
When he moved back to England he began his teaching career from 2011-2020.
Rockett moved back to Idaho and drove school busses, then later began his teaching career at LHS and has been here ever since.
He wanted to become a teacher for two reasons.
The most obvious reason is his love of working with kids and also because his father was a teacher, so it was always in the back of his head to follow in his footsteps.
Rockett likes the thought of investing in the next generations and understands the importance of education.
He was told by many people he works well with high school aged kids.
“Kids keep me young in spirit,” Rockett said, and he plans to work here for many more years to come.
