While most students in high school are busy studying or hanging out with friends, there are also the kids that are busy putting time aside for their families.
Junior Soli Landin is an A+ student that prioritizes family, finding time for everyone despite the workload from her classes. She is the fourth out of five children, and she always finds the time for her siblings, even if they get her into trouble.
Her oldest brother, Jared, helped her with her first jailbreak, getting her to sneak out of the house at just 8 years old to go to Taco Bell and the store, where they bought miniature trinkets that they stayed up way too late painting.
Her little sister, Katie, got her into trouble when they lost track of time in the morning before school and they ended up being an hour late to school. They had to call their dad to drop them off, and they got banned from playing before school.
Despite this, Landin still chooses to hang out with her siblings, finding a sort of comfort in it that only siblings can understand. She makes an effort to hang out with them, even if they don’t live at home anymore.
Just last week, she texted the second born, Dominic, asking to hang out, and the very next day, they spent about four and a half hours together, going to dinner before Dominic taught her about sports.
“He lectured me about football for an hour and a half,” said Landin.
It might not seem like much from an outside perspective, but the little moments like that matter to Landin.
She also makes time for the middle child, Adam. Before she got her license, it was hard to convince Adam to go do things with her because he didn’t want to pay for gas. Now that she has her license, she’s the one paying, so it’s a lot easier. Over this past Christmas Break, she convinced him to go to Fred Meyer and buy way too many Hot Wheels just to hang out.
“He’s an adult, I’m a teenager, what else should we be doing in life?” Landin joked.
She also likes spending one-on-one time with her parents.
Her mom took her on a hike to test out hiking spots for an upcoming activity for her church, and Landin spent the whole time singing purposefully off-key knowing her mom didn’t have anything downloaded on her phone to drown it out. She also recently got to spend some time with her dad, where they went out for sushi and spent the whole time just talking, getting to know each other a little bit better.
Landin is a family person, spending time with those closest to her because they are the most important people to her.
“Family means everything to me,” said Landin.
Some kids will avoid their families, but Landin makes sure to spend time with hers, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
