Q: Give me a brief rundown of who you are.
A: My name is Madison Justesen. I’m a freshman in high school. I am fourteen, almost fifteen. I’ve been in the Lakeland District since sixth grade, so three and a half years, almost four.
Q: What has been your favorite moment at Lakeland?
A: The eighth grade Silverwood trip. That was really fun, because I was hanging out with my friends at Silverwood instead of being at school, and it was a fun experience.
Q: What is your favorite memory from volleyball?
A: When we went to state in October. That was really fun. We went trick-or-treating in my coach’s cousin’s neighborhood. And we got third place in the tournament.
Q: Do you have any idea what you want to do after high school?
A: I do. I want to be a nurse. I think either a NICU nurse, or just a RN (registered nurse).
Q: How do you go about homework?
A: I don’t usually have a lot of it, but I do the hardest or most important things first and work from that to the less important or easier things.
Q: What advice would you give yourself going into high school knowing what you do now?
A: Study. Don’t slack off because your grades actually matter. Like, they didn’t matter as much in middle school, but they really, really matter now, so you wanna get those up.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: I scroll on Instagram. I watch my volleyball games, like rewatch them later, after the tournaments or games. I try to see what I can do better. I snowboard as well. I don’t know, I don’t have any hobbies, Kylee. I’m a lame person.
Q: What is your favorite memory ever?
A: When we would go to California and see our family when we were little. We would visit them like every summer. Also, because we grew up in the Sahara Desert, going to the lake and ocean when it got really hot out and we could.
Q: What is one skill you’d like to learn?
A: I would like to learn how to read. Like, I know how to read, but I can’t sit down and read a book. I want to be able to sit down and read for fun. I just don’t have a very good attention span.
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
A: Teleportation. Could be in the Bahamas right now. I would use it to teleport wherever I want. Like, it takes me about thirty minutes to get ready for school. I could get up at seven and then teleport to school, and I’d be there on time. So, teleportation.
Q: Are you a morning person or a night owl?
A: Morning person for sure. I’ve been a morning person my whole life. I think I’ve started being able to stay up later and later. I think when I was super little, there was no way I was staying up past like seven. But now I can stay up until like 9:30, 10 on a school night. I used to go to bed at 8:30 every night, no exceptions, but now I can stay up later. But I still get up at like seven, even on weekends.
Q: What does your perfect day look like, midnight to midnight without getting tired?
A: I’m going to get up at midnight and go get a massage, because my shoulders are a little kooky. And then I would go play volleyball with my friends, because we wouldn’t be tired and we could rent facilities. And then at like eight or nine in the morning, I’d be done and drive up to the slopes. I’d go snowboarding and I would shred down a double black diamond because I am that person. And I would be done at about five or six, eat some Jimmy John’s with a big glass of Dr. Pepper. And then I’d go to bed at like ten because I can.
