Speech is a required credit in high school. That means you’ll meet one of the most important and prolific teachers here at Lakeland High School Colleen Hall. Hall has taught at Lakeland High School for 31 years, meaning she has spent her entire career here at LHS along with her twin sister, ShannonHall.
Colleen Hall has taught many different subjects throughout her time. Most of her career she has spent as a speech teacher, teaching both regular speech class and COMM 101. She describes it as her main passion. She has also taught English, Improv, Movies as Literature class, Hello Hawks, and Study Support.
Not only has she taught, but she also led and coached many clubs.
This includes: Cheerleading, softball, cross country at the Junior High, golf, student council, speech team, Leadership, and Senior Project Coordinator.
Hall prides herself on maintaining a safe and inviting environment for her students. She’s gone to state for golfing multiple times throughout her tenure, as well as on the speech team, cross country, and student council.
“I pride myself on allowing kids to be comfortable, while also having kids abide by the rules,” Hall said.
Other students here at Lakeland High School have varying opinions of her. She is often described as organized, controlled, and focused. Her speech class is so well organized that there are nearly no mistakes in her flawless system. As the new Hello Hawks teacher, she has taken on the responsibility with grace. Coordinating scripts, roles, and updates can cause quite a lot of stress, especially for Ms. Hall, who is extremely engaged in many of LHS’s curricular and extracurricular activities.
“She’s really good with letting us know what we have to do, and the way she formats our classes is very practical and easy,” Cooper Allen said.
Overall, Ms. C. Hall is a pillar in the Lakeland community, and her importance can’t be denied. From her exceptional speech skills, to her stellar coaching as a golf coach. She’s loved by both staff and students, and for good reason. She’s easy to talk to, and is overall a good teacher and even better; a good person.
