It can be important for teens to find their self-expression through whatever medium they can.
Whether those ways are through their clothes, makeup, a sport; or something they are passionate about.
Some teens choose to express themselves through dyeing their hair.
Many people choose to dye their hair brown or black or bleach it to be blond
Others want to dye their hair with bright blues, reds, or purples, making them pop out in any crowd.
Hair dye comes in a wide range of colors, making countless colorful opportunities. Like for Madison Valli, she’s gone through many colors and styles for her hair. One of her favorites was when her hair was black and a bright green.
Not everyone dyes their hair for self-expression but to have fun and look different from others.
For Jenna Hollis, having colorful hair is a part of her and how the world sees her. She’s gone through more colors than she can remember. In seventh grade, Hollis dyed her hair purple, and from then on, it’s been any color she could get her hands on.
“I dye my hair because it’s fun,” Hollis said.
One day her hair will be blue; the next it’s a bright red.
The people who dye their hair do it to pop out of a boring crowd and have fun experimenting with colors.
Unfortunately, some people who want to dye their hair can’t because of numerous reasons. The most popular is parents not allowing it.
As teens, parents still have control over what you can and can’t do. That still won’t stop teens from desperately wanting to color their hair.
“My parents were supportive but I needed the time and money to actually do it,” Serafina Aldrich said.
For Aldrich, she found more struggle in having the time and money that is put into getting hair dye, as some brands can be expensive for a high schoolers budget.
For Aldrich dying her hair isn’t only fun but also a way she can express herself to the world.
“I think more people should do it because it makes people more unique and adds to their personality,” Aldrich said.
Dying your hair so many different colors can really add to someone’s character; it changes how the people see them. Instead of just passing by, they stop and look. “Wow, that person looks cool!”
Dying hair is well known, but having different vibrant colors makes a person really pop out.
