The Lakeland Hawks girls basketball defeated Lewiston in the first round of districts on Feb. 7.
The Hawks started off strong for the Hawks, Lewiston was playing aggressive and with lots of energy that the girls had to face against. Freshman Jaeli Hoffman had 20 points out of 24 in the first half.
Hoffman had carried the rest of the game and finished with 33 points. The hawks secured the win 56 – 43, to move on to the next round of districts.
βI think we struggled playing as a team, but we knew we had to figure out how to make it through the game,β Anabel Bowie said.
The hawks had struggled but had to face the competition to secure that first win. In the second half of the game, they started to push the ball in transition which gave them easy layups. It lit a spark for the hawks and started to play as their own team and not letting Lewiston through.
βIt was an off game for us but we were still able to get the job done,β Caelyn Caufield said.
The Hawks will play against the Sandpoint Bulldogs on Feb. 10 at Lakeland Highschool at 7 pm, for a chance to go to state.
