He’s in the top 200 in the world in one of the most competitive online games ever.
Cole Tuskan is a freshman at Lakeland High School, who plays one of the most popular video games in the world: Rocket League.
Tuskan is an extremely proficient Rocket League player. He is the highest rank in the game, at Supersonic Legend.
“I’ve spent a copious amount of time and sacrifice to be able to compete with the big dogs,” Tuskan said. He is dedicated to the game, and wants to be one of the best.
Statistically, there are more billionaires in the world than there are people who have the rank of Supersonic Legend.
He is currently ranked top 200 in the world, which is extremely impressive considering there are over twenty-five million active players in Rocket League.
His MMR (Matchmaking Rating) which measures your skill level you go against is extremely high. For reference the average MMR is 900, and Cole’s 2329 in the 2v2 game mode. His solo MMR is 1422. The average for this stat is 500. To put his 2329 MMR in perspective, he isn’t just “high rank”—he is effectively in the 99th percentile of the player base.
Tuskan has won 48 tournaments in the game, He also has a prestigious pink SSL title which is a tournament title that you can only achieve getting three tournament wins in a row in the highest rank in the same day.
His tournament MMR is 2700. The average is 1200.
Needless to say, Cole is a very skilled player.
“Cole is cool, but every time I ask him to hang out he always says he’s busy grinding on the game,” Lucas Marcella said. Is all of this really worth it?
According to Tuskan, it is. He is looking for a career in professional Rocket League playing. He wants to go to Boise State for it, since their Rocket League team is ranked #2 in the nation. Average salaries for Rocket League players can range from $6,000-10,000 a month.
Sounds like a pretty good gig, but in order to be successful in this career, you have to have extreme dedication and willingness to learn.
