Lakeland High School wrestlers delivered a strong overall performance this week as the boys’ and girls’ teams competed at separate venues across North Idaho.
The girls traveled to Lake City High School, while the boys took the mats at Coeur d’Alene High School, with both teams earning multiple podium finishes.
On the boys’ side, Lakeland placed third overall as a team. Carson Leonard (120 pounds) and Cole Cooper (144 pounds) each took first place in their respective weight classes, showcasing dominance throughout the tournament.
Lakeland also saw several other top finishes. Bryan Patrick (98 pounds) earned a runner-up finish, while Cruz Knopp (106), Kalab Hammer (157), and Emmit Rivadeneira (215) placed fourth. Colby Adams (113) and Peyton Sardinha (190) finished fifth.
Patrick has a standout semi finals match pinning the number two ranked 98 pounder in 6A. Patrick had lost to him at home during a dual. He was able to get the pin within a minute and make his way to the finals.
‘’It felt really good to beat someone I have lost to in the past,” Patrick said. “I got the win because I controlled the match from the start and was more aggressive then the past matches.”
Rivadeneira had a tough third placing match against the number one ranked wrestler at 215 in 5A. Rivadeneira beat him at the 5A duals by pin, but at Rumble Rivadeneira lost by decision. The matches between the two wrestlers are getting closer and more competitive every time.
The girls’ team competed at Lake City High School and finished fifth overall, led by standout championship performances from Teagan Patrick (105 pounds) and Hunter Edmondson (115 pounds). Both wrestlers went undefeated on the day, powering their way to individual titles.
“I have placed fifth at the tournament for the last two years, so it feels good to finally win it,” Patrick said. “I think that tournament also gives a huge idea of how districts will go so it gives me almost a boost of confidence for the rest of the season.”
Alex Schroeder (125 pounds) added to the team’s success with a strong third-place finish.
With champions crowned on both sides and multiple wrestlers reaching the podium, Lakeland’s performance reflected depth, determination, and continued growth in the program.
