Lakeland Hawks wrestling had their senior night showdown against the Pocatello Thunder.
Senior Night is always about more than wins and losses, and the Lakeland seniors truly showed that. With almost all seniors winning their matches, it was clear what the Hawks came to do at home one last time: dominate.
The passion this senior class showed on the mats last night was one of a kind, the Lakeland home crowd got to see all the hard work and emotion these athletes put in.
“The only thing on my mind was winning one last time at home,” Peyton Sardinha said. After years of early mornings, intense practices, and countless matches, they stepped onto the mat one last time at home and delivered performances they can be proud of.
Their effort and dedication were rewarded with both victories and a memorable send off. Wrestling is a very emotional sport, and for these seniors that have been putting in the work for the last four years, this night means a lot more than just any other duel.
A senior night in any sport is a special night, but there’s something about wrestling that truly brings out the true passion of high school sports.
“Senior night makes you feel a different kind of sad, it is your last time wrestling at home with this team,” Teagan Patrick said. “I feel like we have a really good group of seniors this year and our coaches are so amazing, it makes it really hard to think it’ll be over so soon,”
A bitter sweet feeling senior night is, as athletes close one door with their last match at home another door opens looking forward to a shot at the state title.
As the Hawks move forward into the postseason, the impact of this senior class will continue to be felt.
On a night filled with emotion and intensity, the Lakeland Hawks honored their seniors the best way they knew how, by wrestling with heart and leaving it all on the mat.
