As a freshman, high school is often an exciting change.
However, as the years go by the motivation for school definitely fades. While school events are exciting, school work is dreadful.
You’ve probably heard of the term senioritis, well for many seniors that’s a real thing. For many seniors having senioritis can mean a couple things, procrastinating, caring less and less about grades, skipping out on homework, studying or even just being mentally “done” with school.
“I always thought senioritis wasn’t a real thing, and I was actually super excited for senior year,” Lilly Dotson said. “I honestly thought it was gonna be a blast and easy. But I quickly realized that senioritis was real and loss of motivation for school really shows when it comes to your grades.”
There are many reasons why senioritis occurs and the main one is that graduation is becoming closer and closer.
Many seniors are thinking about college plans, new jobs and caring less about school work. This is a big problem because the lack of motivation often takes over and can cause many to not graduate.
Procrastination can mean many things, waiting until the last minute to do something, scrolling on social media instead of participating and doing work in class. As well as not preparing yourself properly for deadlines coming up.
Skipping out on homework is also a big problem for many seniors, whether it is not paying attention in class or simply just not turning in assignments, this can cause a major defect in your grades.
Caring less and less about your grades and not doing your work can also affect your chance of getting into a college you want.
For many colleges they look at your junior and senior years of high school and having bad grades can cause them to not accept you or make it harder for you to get in.
“At the beginning of senior year, I was doing really well in school, but towards christmas break I lost all motivation for my classes,” Evan Hildesheim said. “Which caused my grades to drop very fast.”
Keeping up on deadlines, not procrastinating, and using your class time wisely can all help relieve stress and not give you the fear of not graduating.
Graduating can not only affect your future but even some jobs won’t accept someone who doesn’t hold a high school diploma.
Overall senioritis can not only change your performance in high school but also future college opportunities and job offers.
