The Lakeland Hawks boys basketball team faced off against the Timberlake Tigers in a non-conference basketball game. The Hawks defeated the Tigers once again this season with a final score of 51-37. Although the teams are in different conferences, there tends to be a rivalry due to the small distinction between schools. But the Hawks tend to let the Tigers know who the big brother of the two is. Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakeland continued to dominate the court all night, outscoring the Tigers every quarter except for a tie in scoring in the third which would eventually lead to a great home win for the Hawks. Heading into now a three game win streak the Hawks are now 5-4 on the season and the Tigers bumped down to 3-4.
“It always feels good to win in front of a home crowd,” Peyton Hillman said.
Lakeland will head out to challenge Moscow at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The contest will give the Hawks their first taste of in-conference action this season.
A win for the Hawks against the Moscow bears would be huge, considering the stakes of conference games. Although league games now feel like any other game, when the season starts to wind down those league wins or losses play a huge factor in any sort of post season basketball.
This time of year is busy for the Hawks basketball team and they are ready for it. The grit and determination these players have as well as their coaching staff is something that winning teams need, and winning is all these Hawks have been doing.
