Homecoming at the beginning of the year, and prom at the end of the year.
These dances are an essential part to the high school experience, and are great memory-making events.
These dances are looked forward to by many Lakeland High School (LHS) students. The dress shopping, suit shopping, and spending hours getting ready with friends is prominent to the immaculate high school dance.
Although, there is one school dance that often gets overlooked by students.
LHS student council has hosted the Winter Formal Dance for roughly 8 years. Every year, the student council gets up early in the morning, heads to the school and decorates, (usually in their pajamas).
It was originally a “Sadie Hawkins” dance, where girls ask guys, but over time it turned into a regular winter dance.
The student council members expressed how there was a lack of attendance last year, and they’re hoping for that to change this year.
The Winter Formal provides an enjoyable second dance for underclassmen who are unable to attend prom. Although, the main reason for the event is fundraising.
“It’s a simple dance in the commons, all the ticket proceeds go to Battle for the Paddle, it’s a good way to fundraise. ” Student Council President Lilly Dotson said.
Hosting a winter dance provides another way to fundraise to make up for the lack of interest in raffle tickets and other fundraising strategies.
Last year, LHS made $600, which all went to the school’s favorite event.
Beating Sandpoint.
Last year, the student council made the boys varsity basketball game formal themed. Doing this, it had students show up to the game in their dance attire, and head to the dance after. Both events raise money, and school spirit.
This year, the dance will be located in the commons on Saturday, January 10th from 7:00-10:00 PM.
The dance is known for its winter-themed decorations and light colored suits and dresses. It is the perfect opportunity to dress up and have fun while helping our school.
