The Lakeland High School (LHS) wrestling team travelled to Nampa, Idaho for the Rollie Lane Invitational on Jan. 2.
In the boys bracket, Carson Lenoard placed 4th in the 120 division.
Gage McWatters placed 8th in the 175 division. Overall the boys team placed 32 out of 92 teams.
“We could’ve finished better as a team but had lots of injuries which caused more defeat in the rest of the tournament,” Junior Gage McWatters said. “I could’ve performed better in my matches and more well prepared for the bigger competition that the Rollie invitational brings in.” McWatters said.
In the girls division, Hunter Edmondson placed 6th in the 115 division. The girls team placed 55 out 83.
The Hawks will have their next meet Jan. 6 at home.
The Lakeland Hawks boys basketball team played Shadle Park Highlanders on Dec. 27. The hawks had to forget about their previous losses and find a way to fight back. They started off slow but were very aggressive to keep pushing to win the game. The hawks slowed down in the fourth quarter but still held the win 62-38 against the Highlanders.
The Hawks are at the halfway mark in their season and are slowly coming together as a team and will continue to grow. They have lots of potential finishing out the season on a good note.
“As this team continues to grow they will keep improving more and more each game” Coach Caleb De Fabiis said, “Our best basketball is beyond us” De Fabiis said.
The girls basketball team played in the east Idaho shootout Dec. 23 – Dec. 31 and placed third overall. The hawks lost one game during the whole tournament against Green Canyon 66-57. The Hawks put up a strong fight the whole tournament and played very well. Karstyn Kiefer got MVP for the opening game scoring 15 points against Skyline.
This tournament was a great experience for the girls and they learned and grew” Coach Cailyn Caufield said, “We will continue to work on our little mistakes but the girls look great this season.”
