Christmas is one of the most magical times of year.
The joy of Christmas is different from any other holiday.
Christmas can however put a lot of stress on people. With the stress of buying gifts and the loss of motivation before Christmas break, chaos ensues.
Christmas break is a time almost every student looks forward to. It’s the longest break of the year.
But because of this most students start to lose motivation around this time, which is normal but can cause a major drop in their grades.
By December students have been working for months upon months without a break in between; homework, projects, tests and early mornings start to add up.
The Christmas season alone is a big distraction for students. Traveling, seeing family and friends, the anticipation for gifts are all examples of why it’s easy for a student to lose motivation.
It makes school feel temporary or less serious.
December tends to be busy socially and students often stay up later, do more activities, and stress about holiday stuff. When your social battery is drained, schoolwork is usually the first thing to slip.
The cold weather December brings is also a change. Shorter days, and less sunlight can make people feel tired or unmotivated.
“When Christmas time comes around it’s really hard to focus in school because all I can think about is break and the fun activities I’ll be doing.” Delilah Zimmerman said.
Along with this, Christmas shopping is fun. But for many people it becomes one of the biggest sources of holiday stress. Buying gifts can get expensive fast. People worry about staying on budget, finding enough money for everyone, and creating happiness which is what Christmas is all about.
Christmas shopping also puts you in a time crunch. December is already considered the busiest month of the year. So, trying to fit shopping in, is a big ask. Having to deal with money limits, packed schedules. Crowded stores and high expectations, makes something that is supposed to be fun overwhelming.
“Christmas shopping puts stress on me because I never know what to get people, or if they will like what I got them.” Evan Hildesheim said.
Christmas has a lot to offer, and is one of the most amazing holidays, but is also stressful.
