An inner squad dual to fight for the varsity spot, green vs. gold.
The event was held at Lakeland High School (LHS).
The girls team is one seed so they wrestled close to their weight. All the matches ended in a pin.
The girls checked on each other and hugged and went about their days.
The boys however end a little differently. They have been putting in blood, sweat, and tears for the past two weeks.
Zach Teal the 2024 Tri-state champion and state champion wrestled the freshman Cruz Knopp.
Knopp was able to keep from getting pinned but was unfortunately teched. He shed some tears but overall one of the coaches said “You’re just a freshman, keep working on getting better.”
Joziah Koonce is a junior and was pinned by freshman Colby Adams.
Carson Leonard a two time state champion went against Caleb Adams a state placer and won with a tech fall.
Kade Knopp picked up his opponent Kutter O’Brian with a blast double. Knopp came out with the win.
Joe Baxter is a senior and lost in a major decision to freshman Quinn Miller.
Jackson Patterson and Zane Grey were the last match of the night. It was a battle between the heavyweights. A match that was going in Patterson’s favor ended up going to Grey’’s when he was able to get a turn on Patterson.
The intense matches between teammates vs. teammates is a great duel to watch. The effort and time the boys put into their sport, and the chance to get a varsity spot all in the hands of one dual.
The next Dual is at LHS against Mount Spokane and Timberlake.
