Daniel Killian sat in biology class one day freshman year. He overheard some classmates talking about ivy league schools and how difficult they are to get into. After overhearing this conversation, Killian decided he wanted to be one of those kids.
He wanted to be one of those students that was stronger than the rest and went as far as he could.
This is when things clicked.
Freshman year Killian joined the student council and he started as a class rep. He also decided to be manager of the baseball team, which he continued to do all four years of high school.
After freshman year, things took off.
“I want to leave the school a better place than I came into it as,” Killian said.
His junior year he took on the role of head of the committee for fundraising for battle for the paddle and organized all of the fundraisers and was also ASB vice president.
He is still a huge part of fundraising and leading important events today.
Killian as well as doing a lot for the school, he does a lot for his school mates. He is the kind smile on someone’s hard day and the helping hand for one who is struggling.
“I want people to know if they ever need help, I’m there,” Killain said.
In Killian’s senior year he became Lakeland High Schools ASB president. On top of that he is the treasurer for the key club, and the lead sound tech for the drama department.
“Daniel is a great leader at Lakeland High School, he provides great qualities that have impacted our school in a great way,” Principal Jimmy Hoffman said.
Killian is currently planning to join the speech team and is trying to bring back the Model U.M. club.
Killian leads the school body with its fundraisers. He has always done a lot for the school these past four years and is continuing it today.
Though Killian has done a lot for the school physically, he has also helped make it a better place. He is and has been a great person for other students to look up to.
“He’s really friendly to everyone and he cares about the student body,” student council member Kindell Day said.
After high school Killian has applied for many universities but most important to him, Notre Dame and Columbia University. He hopes to go to one of the two schools.
Killian wants to pursue a history degree and wants to ultimately be a history professor.
Killian decided that he wanted to pursue such high grade schools because he wanted no limits and to have the credit for no one to second guess him and his abilities.
Killian wants the opportunity to explore whatever door the world might open for him.
“There’s a lot more doors open and I will never be limited,” Killian said.
Though all of the work he has put in over the years has been difficult, it will pay off.
Killian is honorable when he shows that putting in lots of work now to get to a place where you can accomplish anything you want is worth it.
Thankfully he didn’t have to do it alone. Jillian has had to do a lot of hard things but not without a cheering stand, his mom along with others.
“My mom is one of my biggest supporters and she is always there or if I need help,” Killian said.
