Ricky McCasland, a senior at Lakeland High School (LHS) has ideas of pursuing a career in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning field (HVAC).
“My dad does it so I would like to do it, I also love the smell of air conditioning,” McCasland said.
Although McCasland is currently attending KTEC for HVAC, he wants to stay open minded for possibilities after high school.
McCasland made a transition from Lake City to LHS, which has been a meaningful chapter in his senior year. After making the switch, he quickly found himself reconnecting with old friends and forming new bonds that have made his final year memorable. His easy going personality and sense of humor have helped him create a good group of friends.
“I met Ricky in third grade, he’s very funny and I enjoy being around him,” Shariece Vandever said.
Outside of school, you might see McCasland on the court. McCasland likes to spend any free time he can get playing basketball. He usually picks up a game Downtown Coeur d’Alene or anywhere that has a court.
Another outside activity of McCaslands is working. McCasland started working when he was just 14 and hasn’t stopped since. McCasland currently works as a delivery driver for Dominoes Pizza. He says the tips are great and he actually enjoys his job. McCasland has saved up thousands of dollars and plans to keep saving for the future.
“My favorite part of high school is the social aspect,” McCasland said.
Anyone who knows him would nod in agreement. He’s the guy who lights up a room with his humor and kindness that never goes unnoticed. McCasland is excited for high school to be over, but also a little sad. He says he is going to miss his friends but knows that good things will come after high school.
One thing that stands out about McCasland is his ability to balance work, school, and friendships. Despite his busy schedule, he always makes time for the people around him. Whether it’s cracking jokes in class, showing up for a pickup game, or delivering pizzas, McCasland brings a positive energy that people gravitate toward. His dedication to his goals, saving money, exploring career options, and staying connected with friends shows his good character.
As graduation approaches, McCasland is looking forward to what’s next, but he’s also taking time to appreciate the journey that got him here.
