Lakeland High School (LHS) fell just short of winning the T-Mobile 5G Night Light competition. There were 25 out of 2,176 schools that got picked to participate in the competition for the $1 million football stadium makeover.
LHS was able to stay in fourth for the majority of the competition, but sadly that is also where they ended, Dierks High School won the competition.
“I am very disappointed that we did not win the million dollars; we could have got a brand new weight room and football stadium,” Emmit Rivadeneira said. “I am happy we placed fourth out of 25 schools, I am satisfied with how our community did with the voting.”
The support from the community was extremely appreciated, according to a Facebook post from LHS.
The help of Jacquie Neff for getting LHS in the competition and continuing to help get the bonus votes from the mini competitions in the big one.
The area schools, businesses and community members showed their support during the competition as well, posting on social media putting up QR codes at their businesses.
With just rural schools in the running it is about the community and spreading the word about the competition.
Every single person who voted and kept voting throughout the 24th helped LHS stay in the running, the post added.
LHS is not walking away with nothing, they did win $30,000 prior to being chosen for the to have a chance at the $1 million.
