After a devastating loss to the Post Falls Trojans, the Hawks have their heads held high looking into their next game against the Moscow Bears.
The Bears have been making a stand this season with a record of 5-0. This is a big year for the Bears and the Hawks are looking to shut down their undefeated season.
Although Lakeland is coming off back-to-back losses, they refuse to let that bring them down. With a full head of steam, the Lakeland players and coaching staff are prepared to take over the Bears on their home field.
“You can’t focus on who they have played, you need to focus on who they’re about to play,” Jace Taylor said.
It’s all about the game in front of you. Getting too caught up in games you’ve already played could distract your team from who’s next.
With the Hawks’ recent losses, they need to have that “who’s next” mindset. The same applies to the Bears even though their record is good; they cannot dwell on the fact they won some games but more focus on the games that are yet to come.
“I’m really confident about this week’s game,” Cash Lund said. Confidence is key to winning these types of games. With the divisions being newly adjusted this year, Moscow stayed in the 4A division while Lakeland moved up to 5A.
This changed what was once a huge conference game to a non-conference game.
“It may not be a conference game, but it will always be a big game to me,” Taylor said. When divisions change, competition also changes.
“Just like last year we were looking for this big win, except this time we were winning on their home turf” Lund said.
