We all know that nostalgic feeling of the hot summer rays beating down on our skin and the clear view of summer skies. Summer break is what most students look forward to throughout the entirety of the school year.
Every student longs for a three-month escape from school to spend time in the warm sun with friends.
However, this year may be less exciting for some of the juniors. With this year being most of our last summer breaks, reality starts to tie in quickly.
The current seniors leaving halfway through the summer and graduation also contribute to the reality tie of the upcoming seniors’ future.
Taking time to sit down and think about how high school will all be over soon is unsettling. The feeling of joy and sadness seeps through these upcoming seniors and throws them onto a roller coaster of emotions.
Most upcoming seniors see this as their last summer and try to do as much as they can, getting ready to live out their last year of high school.
“I feel like I have to live this summer up and make it the best I can before I go to college,” Kaylea Clift, junior at LHS, said.
Clift aims to be more outgoing this summer and try many new things. She also plans to spend more time with family and friends to make the most of the moments they have left.
While upcoming seniors tend to try to live up to the summer or make it more exciting, personal growth shines its way through.
Preparing for senior year and continuing to mature and get ready to become an adult sends most of the upcoming seniors into a more mature level of growth.
“I think my maturity will be a big growth over the summer, learning to contribute more and get more involved,” Bryson Wilson said.
Wilson plans to be more involved and try more outgoing tasks to carry over into his senior year.
He also plans to spend as much time with his graduate friends as possible before they leave.
“I am glad they are going to college and excited to see what they do, but at the same time, it is sad seeing them go,” Wilson said.
Watching older friends leave and being unable to spend the whole summer with them is a hard time for the upcoming seniors.
Friends whom you have grown up with or friends with whom you became close within a short amount of time, the feeling is an emotional rollercoaster.
Watching them leave and realizing they will not be there with you for your final year is a complex concept.
While most want to be out of here by now, it is wild to watch just how fast the time has gone.
I am ready to be out of here and on to the start of the next chapter of my life. While I am an upcoming senior, it is hard to watch some of my closest friends graduate or go on with their lives.
Another tricky part is living this summer, knowing that this may be the last summer I have with some of the people I have grown up with and seen throughout all different parts of each other’s lives.
