As the tassel moves from one side of a graduation cap to another, a change is made.
The student becomes an adult, and while new freedoms are granted, extreme responsibilities are placed on the shoulders of every young adult.
While navigating these new responsibilities, students will stumble across the University of Idaho and its B.S. Computer Science program. With undeniably eye-catching achievements such as the “Best Undergraduate Computer Science Program” from the U.S. News and World Report, this computer science program is the best of its kind.
This computer science course for after high school was visited by 31 of Lakeland High School’s students. Isaiah Foley said that his favorite part of the trip was seeing the robot that could paint, created by UI students.
“It focuses on Industrial and Agricultural computer science and robotics which gives real world application of their work in settings beyond just an office space,” Lucas Hutson said.
The students got to see the hands-on program teaches its students how to design, develop and test different computer systems for countless purposes. The classes even developed 150 LED Triangles for the college band’s annual halftime performance that light up when hit.
Artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data management and virtual environments are shaping the future that students will be working first hand in a couple of years. The students who visited the UI program got to see how the college offers them the ability to create and shape how this technology will shape the near future.
Proudly, the LHS students stepped foot into the new world of technology education. The opportunity that was given to the students was extremely beneficial for those who are unsure of what their options are after high school.
