Lakeland High School’s one and only Connor Carvajal will be graduating in the class of 2024. He has big plans for the future, and his whole life right up to retirement is planned out.
Carvajal wants to become a windmill technician after working with his brother as a tower tech out of high school.
“After becoming a tower tech, I plan on branching out to a company called Vestise, the leading windmill company in America,” Carvajal said. “I want to work my way up, and when I get past tech three with wind, I would possibly want to become a team lead.”
Not only does Carvajal want to go out and work, but he also wants to build his name up and become a higher-up in the company.
Carvajal wants to do this kind of job because he is a known adrenaline junkie. Being a windmill and tower tech doesn’t come with hazard pay for nothing, and Carvajal is really excited about that.
“I don’t want a job that will keep me bored,” Carvajal said.
He also wants to do ski patrol when he graduates and live on the mountain, somewhere exciting and fun like Aspen.
He may not have been in the running for valedictorian, but Carvajal will be hard-working and push his career forward in adulthood.
Carvajal learned a lot during his time at LHS about work ethic and how to move into the workforce through the Industrial Mechanics and Welding class.
Carvajal explained that he had the most fun during his time at LHS in the shop, working under Corey Pettit, the LHS shop teacher.
He found the most inspiration from Pettit and learned the most from him.
“He’s honest, to a fault sometimes,” Pettit said. “He has a good work ethic and will work hard to get stuff done”
Pettit explained that with Carvajal and all his students, he tries to teach them to always work hard and make things look good. He wants his students to try their best in everything they do.
“I think he will be great working with his hands, and that gig will be good for him,” Pettit said. “He likes some risk, and I think he will like that. I think he’s going to do well.”
