Finishing the year off can be a hard task for a senior once the senioritis has kicked in and the last month or two of school hits. Put four extra online classes on top of that and a student will have a mountain of work to do.
Besides all the work being time consuming, Ethan Smith is managing to make all of this happen so he can graduate in June with his class.
For Smith’s freshman year of high school, he did online school. Unfortunately, he was unable to receive credit for the classes he took, so he is making up his freshman year while also finishing his last year.
“I got a month to finish all those classes so I’m trying to get it done,” Smith said. “It’s not too hard, it is just pretty time consuming.”
The most frustrating part of redoing his freshman year is taking the time out of his day, but it has not stopped him from making sure he gets it done.
Students and staff at Lakeland High School have been drastically impacted by Smith’s attendance at LHS.
Although Smith has only been going to the high school since his junior year, he has made very valuable memories.
Austin Howell originally met Smith during football aand they have been friends since.
“He is a really great guy,” Howell said.” He was very friendly on the football field when he played and a very outstanding guy.
Once graduated, Smith plans to attend North Idaho College where he plans to get his associates degree for biology. He is hoping he can become a physical therapist.
This career is something he found to be passionate about in the last few years. Thanks to the physical therapists he has worked with, they have influenced him to pursue the career.
“When I was injured, I went into the offices and I liked the work environment,” Smith said. “I wanted to help people out who are going through the same experience.”
Smith will miss the staff, friends and memories made at LHS. Some of his favorite memories include sports, like tennis and soccer. His favorite memory while at the high school was going to districts for soccer in his sophomore year.
However, despite missing the numerous events and memories, Smith is ready to take his next step and enter young adult life.
“He’s a cool guy,” Howell said. “I’ll definitely miss seeing him around the school.”
