Matt Neff, our dedicated athletic director, is a firm believer in the pursuit of excellence, a value he instills in all of us at Lakeland High School.
This spring season, our athletic programs have truly shone, with fifteen out of seventeen achieving a commendable 3.0 or above GPA. Even the two that fell slightly short of this mark have shown remarkable dedication and improvement.
“This is a very important stat that I watch, and I couldn’t be more proud,” Neff said.
The character has a huge impact on Neff’s attitude towards everything else. Neff cares deeply about connecting school to real life.
Neff’s leadership has been crucial in maintaining this high standard. He has been proactive in communicating and emphasizing the role of our coaches in ensuring our students excel both on and off the field.
The Schools of Excellence program keeps track of not only grades but sports team’s stats as well. The school is ecstatic to be getting reports on our athletic programs with a 3.0 GPA.
Neff keeps up with athletics by checking up on people’s grades and holding them accountable to make sure they are the best people they can be.
“Of course, I want to beat them in sports, but academics are important too,” Neff said.
At the end of the year, IHSAA adds all of this up and compares LHS to the rest of the schools and they get a ranking.
Neff’s goal is to get in the top 10 whenever it comes to the IHSAA. Neff wants to continue to be the best school that we can be at all times.
“Managing time is the biggest thing and being able to communicate with teachers,” Said Brock Rabel, “I think the biggest thing for me is having connections to not only the teachers but with students as well.”
Neff looks out for student-athletes and wants student-athletes to look out for each other as well. Neff could not be more proud of LHS’s achievements. Neff hopes LHS keeps up the good work and proves to the state of Idaho that LHS deserves to be on top.
