Tension fills the school as a promise of a new future lies just ahead for the senior class at Lakeland High School. There is only a month left of the school year and a month left of high school for the seniors.
One of LHS’ very own, Trevor Hutchison, faces these fears with bravery and excitement.
Hutchinson has been a part of the Lakeland Joint School District 272 since fourth grade. He has seen endless homework assignments and teachers. He has cycled through many classes and lessons. Yet a few of these classes and teachers stood out for Hutchinson.
Classes such as Political Science and English were some of Hutchisons favorites. He enjoyed the back-and-forth banter with his favorite teachers.
Hutchinson is sad about the end of his high school career, but the hope on the near horizon is worth all the hard work he put into his four years at Lakeland.
“I am excited for the future but unsure of what I want it to be,” Hutchison said.
“I plan to go one year to NIC to get my AA and then transfer to a four-year college,” Hutchison said.
Uncertainty surrounding his major is still prominent, and he will decide officially on a major later in his education.
Plans have sometimes been more complex for Hutchinson. As for every student, confusion and difficulties have arrived.
“Getting up early was a big struggle. Lots of alarms helped, and I enjoyed my classes, so that made it easier,” Hutchinson said.
Yet, as plans changed and years went by, Hutchinson always stayed true to his core beliefs and values, allowing him to thrive in his school years.
Dependability, respect and responsibility are three of Hutchison’s top values, and he has remained faithful to them throughout his years in the LJSD 272.
These values allowed him to succeed academically as well as socially.
Hutchinson likes to embrace the nerves of change that come after high schooll. The real world holds high promises of success and freedom.
Leaving behind lifelong friendships and inspirational teachers is one of graduation season’s most nostalgic and difficult parts.
“It’s kind of bittersweet,” Hutchison said.
People he has known since junior high will now be blurry faces in the back of his memory.
He also enjoyed participating in LHS sports, such as golf and football. A prominent member of the LHS community, Hutchison impacted many students, teachers and coaches’ lives.
Hutchison has big goals and opportunities for the future. While LHS will miss having him as a student, the world is excited to see what he does.
