In modern society, the thought of failure is frowned upon. Failure is seen as a substandard in the contemporary world and is almost unacceptable. Why failure is such a bad thing is a common question among society’s people.
Failing is the way of learning, to fail is to learn how to succeed. With a mindset of failure being bad, most people will never see the success it brings, so why not change the attitude.
“I believe it is important to experience things like failure to help grow,” Allison Isenberger said.
Isendberger recently received a scholarship opportunity to NIC for being in the top 10 percent of juniors for academic achievement.
She believes that failing is a way of learning and that people should give themselves more grace and not be brought down by failure.
“Just little mistakes can help you learn,” Isenberger said. “Like one time I messed up my biology project and it helped me to become more detail-oriented.”
Failure is not something to look down upon but something that can be seen as a learning step. If someone fails something or messes up, figuring out where the mistake was made is a way of knowing what to do next time and learning from it.
Students are so scared to fail that they become too hard on themselves and do not see the positive side of the situation. Fixing mistakes and learning from them is a way to help people achieve their goals.
“I feel like teachers should still be up teaching the class, but it is also efficient to learn from doing assignments yourself,” Isenberger said.
Practicing new skills can be tricky, and there is almost a guarantee of failure in the first couple of tries. Through this, athletes learn what not to do and how to improve in the game.
Most sports are a game of mistakes and rely on failure to win. Learning the other team’s mistakes and weaknesses is a crucial part of sports and relies on learning from mistakes.
Failing is in almost everything a person learns. For example, when children learn how to ride a bike after taking off the training wheels, they are guaranteed to fail and tip over or hurt themselves. They learn from this and, later on, can ride the bike without tipping over or getting hurt. They are officially training wheel-free.
This is almost the same as any other type of failure people see in themselves. Changing the mindset is one of the ways that peers can be less complicated on themselves and learn growth from these mistakes rather than dwelling on them.
Failure should not be looked so down upon. If someone is not trying and purposefully failing or not paying attention, then looking down upon those types makes sense, but trying and still failing should not be so harsh on people.
These should be taken as learning experiences and challenges to improve people’s skills.
Changing your mindset to learning from the mistakes rather than dwelling on them makes it easier to get past the bad parts and learn how to do it right.
The idea of being perfect all of the time is degrading and should not be as normalized as it is.
