A magical night that Juniors and Seniors look forward to throughout their entire high school experience. It is truly a night filled with memories and experiences.
Prom has been a high school tradition that started in the 1930s and has been carried on for generations. People gather together to vote for their favorite couple or person to nominate for prom king and queen.
This year, Colin Killian and Charlie Dickerson won prom king and queen at Lakeland High School.
This tradition celebrates students and their achievements by acknowledging their accomplishments and voting for someone worthy.
Lakeland High School held prom on April 20. It was held at the Best Western Coeur d’Alene Inn.
This year there were five boys and five girls in the running for the title of prom king and queen, but only two people were crowned.
The lucky couple named prom king and queen for LHS were Colin Killian and Charlie Dickerson.
“It was cool to win, I was not expecting to win but I am glad we did,” Colin Killian said.
Killian and Dickerson have been together for almost 3 years, starting their relationship the last week of their freshman year. They were shocked, but grateful to be able to capture this moment together at their senior prom.
“I did not do anything at all, I did not ask a single person to nominate us, it just happened,” Charlie Dickerson said.
While their strategy is out of the ordinary, it worked out well for Killian and Dickerson.
The prom court is an interesting system, where seniors choose to nominate five boys and five girls. The boy and girl with the most votes are ultimately crowned as prom king and queen.
They both enjoyed the night as this would be their last dance together as high schoolers.
Being voted prom king and queen is a huge honor that students get to carry with them for the rest of their lives.
“I really liked the photo booth, it was my favorite part of the night,” Dickerson said.
While she enjoyed the photo booth, Killians’s favorite part of the night took place as the night began.
“My favorite part was probably my intro song, I liked that the best,” Killian said.
Colin made his entrance with the iconic song choice of “Superstar” by Luke Fiasco. This made the night one to remember.
Colin, the newly crowned prom king made an interesting choice on what to do with his crown.
“I got to keep my crown, and it’s sitting on the dash of my car,” Killian said.
This interesting display choice lets everyone know who the king is.
The two, crowned king and queen, ended the night with newly made memories that will last a lifetime.
“I would not want to be prom queen with anyone else,” Dickerson said.
