The Lakeland Hawks (4-6) traveled to Post Falls to play the Post Falls Trojans (4-10) on April 16. The Trojans took this game from the Hawks with a final score of 17-9.
Payton Sterling led the Hawks in hits in the first game, going 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Kyla Holte went 2 for 3 with a pair of singles and an RBI. Kiersten Drake went 2 for 4 with a single and a home run with two RBIs.
For the Trojans, Sienna Williams went 2 for 2 with two singles and two RBIs, and Charlie Wasson went 3 for 5 with a double and a home run while also knocking in four runs. Katie Berg went 2 for 4 with a single, home run and two RBIs.
The Hawks played well in the field, but did have two errors, which cost them runs. Though they had two errors, they battled hard throughout the game and fought through adversity.
“We started out good, but once that fifth inning came, things kind of started to fall apart,” Zimmerman said.
The Hawks scored three runs in the first inning, one run in the second, three runs in the fourth, one run in the sixth, and one more run in the seventh.
The Trojans got five runs across the board in the first inning, three in the fourth, and nine in the fifth inning.
Abby Helmholz started on the mound for the Hawks, going four innings, giving up eleven hits, twelve earned runs, seven walks, two home runs and one strikeout.
Mia Kesner came in for relief and gave up seven hits, six earned runs, two walks, one home run and one strikeout.
Lexie McCarroll started for the Trojans going the whole game, giving up nine hits, seven earned runs, two walks, one home run, and three strikeouts.
For the second game, Drake went 4 for 5 with three home runs and six RBIs, Zimmerman went 5-5 with a double and four singles, Ada Blakemore went 2 for 2 with three walks and two singles, Holte sent 2 for 3 with two singles and two RBIs.
Felix went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a home run for the Trojans, and Summer Dan went 1 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs.
Mackenzie Briggs started the game for the Hawks, giving up eleven hits, eight earned runs, seven walks, two home runs and three strikeouts.
McCarroll started the game for the Trojans, going six innings, giving up fifteen hits, seven earned runs, five walks, two home runs, and four strikeouts.
Kayla Rouse came in relief and went one inning, giving up one hit, one earned run, one walk, one home run and two strikeouts.
The Hawks won this game 16-8 and split with the Trojans.
The Hawks will travel to War Memorial Field to play against their league rival, the Sandpoint Bulldogs (3-9, 0-2) on April 18.
